PULPIT

During the reformation of the church in the 18th century, the magnificent new pulpit was built, the best on the island and one of the most beautiful in the Canary Islands. Symbol of the Dominican family, its careful execution and decorative richness expresses the main mission of the Order: to preach the truth and defend the Catholic faith from heresy. Below the tribune, four seated angels gaze upwards, absorbed by the words of the sacred orator, and, occupying the front of the tribune, the high relief of Saint Dominic de Guzmán, originally holding a rosary in his hands. On the lectern, the representation of the Holy Spirit, the main inspiration and force of Christian doctrine and, topping the lectern, the sculpture of Saint Thomas Aquinas, whose doctrine inspired Dominican preaching.
