SAINT GERTRUDE

The image of Santa Gertrudis, a sculpture in wood and glued fabrics, polychrome and beautifully stewed from the 18th century, is a work brought back from a voyage by Don Nicolás de Sotomayor, captain of the militias and of several ships such as the one called ‘Nuestra Señora del Rosario’, and who worshipped it in his house. In his will, he wished it to be placed in the chapel of San Francisco Javier in this city. At the beginning of the 20th century, she was worshipped in the church of Santo Domingo, having her own altar. After a period of time in the parish church of El Salvador, it was again displayed in this Dominican temple.
